PHILIP K. DICK
Arguably one of the most intriguing of Dick’s works - this posthumously published novel is set in an alternate United States. It tells the story of two friends and their involvement with a extraterrestrial being named VALIS. They also become involved in the resistance movement against the fascist style government of President Ferris F. Fremont.
An unusual element of this tale is that one of the main protagonists is Philip K. Dick himself. He based the novel on real experiences that happened to him and places himself in the story as a main character. These extraordinary events in his life were summarized in a cartoon by Robert Crumb.
Many of Philip K. Dick’s books have been filmed over the years - examples include: Bladerunner, Total Recall, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly, Next .. to name but a few.
