TRAINING

In 1978 I joined an editing company in the UK as an assistant film editor. Through them I worked at many of the UK’s television companies including Granada Television, Thames Television, BBC Cardiff and BBC Glasgow on a wide variety of material. I also edited news at the BBC in Belfast and at Ulster TV during the height of the troubles there. Later, I worked as a dubbing editor on noted UK drama series: “Minder”.

In 1981 I joined commercials production company: Orchid as their assistant film editor. In 1982 I was promoted to editor. For three years I edited (on 35mm film) commercials for TV.

In 1984 I left Orchid and became a freelance film and video editor. I worked through an agency who sent me on contract to TV companies around the country.

In the late eighties - when most editing switched to video systems - I learned to run (linear) tape-based on-line systems such as Sony 9000, Paltex and Convergence. When non-linear computer systems came in, I trained as an AVID editor. Today I am fully trained on the various AVID systems and Final Cut Pro.

TODAY, although I work often in my role as a director and /or cinematographer, I still continue to edit, often on my own films.
